I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here, I've posted in most Master threads and no one seems to be replying, even to say that they aren't interested. Is this normal or am I not looking for rps in the right way?

Yes it is. Like Oblivion said, whiteboard is the best way to get a hold of someone for a roleplay.
